7/28/2016 - Tulsa, OK -- An Oklahoma middle school teacher has pleaded guilty to soliciting Internet prostitution in Tulsa and has been sentenced to probation.
As JohnTV previously reported, Mannford sixth grade English Language Arts teacher, Jake Austin Cox, was arrested in May after he responded to an escort ad on Backpage.com. The ad was posted by undercover officers with the Tulsa Police Department's Vice Unit.
Cox reportedly responded to the ad via text message. In one text Cox is said to have asked, "can I cum more than once in the half hour."
According to court documents, Cox, 25, met with a female undercover officer at a southeast Tulsa Courtyard Marriot. Once inside, Cox "agreed to a half hour of sexual services including oral sex." Cox was then placed under arrest and transported to the Tulsa County Jail.
Police claim that Cox admitted to them that he has solicited and had sex with prostitutes in the past.
Cox posted a $1,000 bond and was released pending the outcome of his case.
Cox was reportedly placed on paid suspension by the Mannford public school district.
On June 3, Cox was formally charged in Tulsa County with one count of misdemeanor engaging in prostitution. On June 6, Cox appeared in court and pleaded not guilty.
Less than a month later, Cox appeared in court again - but this time he changed his plea to guilty.
On June 29, Cox received an 18-month deferred sentence and was ordered to pay $375 plus court costs, and $75 VCA.
A deferred sentence means Cox pleaded guilty but that the courts are withholding a finding of guilt in lieu of probation. If Cox successfully completes his probation, then the matter will be dropped and he will not have a criminal record. Cox can have the entire matter expunged in 10-years, according to Oklahoma law.
There has been no official word as to Cox's employment status with the Mannford school district.
As of this posting, Cox's Facebook profile still lists himself as a "6th grade English Language Arts Teacher at Mannford Middle School."
Cox's Facebook profile also indicates he was previously employed at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College.
Cox listed a home address in the 3700 block of S. 63rd. West Ave. in Tulsa.
