9/27/2016 - OKC, OK -- An Oklahoma City woman has been arrested and charged with prostitution after Vice investigates mounting complaints regarding street activity in a popular tourist lodging district.
It has become increasingly obvious over the last several years that street prostitution along Oklahoma City's notorious S. Robinson Ave. stroll has been on a dramatic decline. The problem? The pimps haven't suddenly reformed and the prostitutes have not all magically gotten legitimate jobs.
Instead, most of the street activity has gone online, and what little still exists has apparently moved closer to the clients and the concealment of 'hotel row' - otherwise known as S. Meridian Ave., near I-40 and Meridian in south Oklahoma City.
For some time, S. Meridian Ave. has been the destination for local and traveling out-of-state escorts and human sex traffickers. However, for the most part, their criminal activity has been kept off the streets and BCD (Behind Closed Doors).
According to court records, back in early August, members of the Oklahoma City Vice Unit were "investigating prostitution in the 800 block of S. Meridian. Recently, complaints have been received concerning individuals involved in prostitution frequenting the area."
Around 5 p.m. on Aug. 11, undercover officers noticed a black female "standing near the road motioning to cars."
The undercover officer stopped and made contact with the woman. Shortly thereafter the woman got into the officer's car and almost immediately began talking about sex.
The woman eventually reportedly offered to provide the undercover officer with "head" (oral sex) for $80. The undercover officer then identified himself and placed the woman into custody.
The woman was identified as 34-year-old Angela Renee King.
King is listed as a 'transient' in court documents.
King was transported to the Oklahoma County Jail and held in lieu of a $500 bond.
On Aug. 30, King was formally charged in Oklahoma County with one count of misdemeanor offering to engage in prostitution.
After being held for just over a month in the county jail, King was released from custody and transferred to mental health court.
