UPDATE: On Aug. 16, 2016 Hance Bailey and Desmond Bethany were formally charged with felony pandering and conspiracy.
7/13/2016 - OKC, OK -- A man and a teenage girl were arrested last week after they allegedly tried to recruit two female undercover police officers posing online as prostitutes.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed Monday, last week a female undercover officer with the Oklahoma City Police Department's Vice Unit posted an ad for prostitution on Backpage.com.
On Thursday, July 7, a man later identified as 38-year-old Desmond Kintwana Bethany responded to the ad and allegedly "implied that the undercover officer should come work for him."
Two undercover female officers setup an in-person meeting for the next day.
Around 5 p.m. Desmond Bethany arrived at 1029 S. Meridian Ave. (shopping center parking lot) with a black female, later identified as 19-year-old Bailey Jane Hance.
According to police, Desmond's conversation revolved "around prostitution and the money gained from it, in which it was clear to detectives that they would be performing prostitution acts and in return Desmond would provide them with protection, clothing, hair and nail services and anything else they needed."
Desmond introduced the two undercover female officers to Hance - whom Desmond said worked for him. Court records identify Hance as "a known prostitute."
Hance reportedly told the undercover female officers that Desmond takes care of her and "would do the same for [the undercover officers]." Hance also allegedly "encouraged the detectives to work for Desmond, by stating all the good things he would do for them and showing off her hair and nails."
Desmond and Hance mentioned they had been smoking marijuana and offered to smoke some with the undercover officers. The pair also reportedly discussed taking the female undercover officers out of state to engage in prostitution.
At the conclusion of their meeting, both Desmond and Hance were taken into custody and transported to the Oklahoma County Jail.
While processing Desmond, officers located $1,036 in cash and confiscated it as likely criminal proceeds. Officers also located a baggie containing less than 5 grams of marijuana in Desmond's vehicle.
Desmond was booked into jail on complaints of pandering, conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of criminal proceeds and possession of marijuana. No other criminal record for Desmond could be found in Oklahoma.
Hance was booked into jail on complaints of pandering, conspiracy to commit a felony and possession of marijuana. Hance has a current criminal case in Custer County for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. No other adult criminal record could be located for Hance in Oklahoma.
Desmond gave a home address in the 3500 block of Morris St. in Dallas.
Hance gave a home address in the 2600 block of NW 44 in Oklahoma City.
As of this posting, both Desmond and Hance have posted bond and been released from jail.
No formal criminal charges have yet been filed.
